Textbook Content and Philosophy
The National Curriculum Framework (NCF), 2005, recommends linking children's school life to their life outside of school, departing from rote, bookish learning.
The textbook attempts to foster creativity and initiative by treating children as participants in learning.
The content was rationalised due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the National Education Policy 2020, to reduce content load and provide opportunities for experiential learning.
Rationalisation was based on overlap with other subjects or classes, difficulty level, accessibility for self-learning, and present-day relevance.

A fraction is a number representing a part of a whole, where the parts must be equal. The whole can be a single object or a group of objects.
In the fraction $\frac{5}{12}$, the number '12' is the denominator, representing the number of equal parts the whole is divided into.
The number '5' is the numerator, representing the number of equal parts taken out.
