1. International Highlight

Cyclone Ditwah (Sri Lanka): The cyclone has claimed 643 lives, with the highest death toll in Kandy. The disaster has severely impacted Malaiyaha Tamil estate workers and displaced thousands.

Bangladesh Unrest: Violent protests followed the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Offices of major newspapers (Prothom Alo and The Daily Star) were torched.

2. National Current Affairs

Mass Voter Roll Revision: The Election Commission of India (ECI) published draft electoral rolls for Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. A staggering 97.3 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu (15% of electors) and 73.7 lakh in Gujarat (14.5%) were deleted due to shifting, deaths, or duplicate entries.

Reservation for Agniveers: The Union Home Ministry has decided to enhance the reservation for ex-Agniveers in Group C posts of CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces) from 10% to 50%. This includes a specific 50% quota for constable posts in the Border Security Force (BSF).

Parliament Winter Session: The session concluded with high productivity (111% in Lok Sabha, 121% in Rajya Sabha). Key bills passed include the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), which replaces the UPA-era MGNREGA.

Bureau of Port Security (BoPS): The Centre is establishing a dedicated statutory body, BoPS, modeled after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, to oversee the security of ships and port facilities.

SC on Corporate Responsibility: The Supreme Court ruled that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) must include "environmental responsibility," specifically directing funds toward protecting endangered species like the Great Indian Bustard.

3. State Current Affairs (Andhra Pradesh)

Central Assistance Pursuit: CM N. Chandrababu Naidu met Union Ministers in Delhi to seek support for various projects, including ₹10,054 crore under SASCI, funds for the Rayalaseema horticulture hub, and the Polavaram project.

Investment Momentum: The AP Cabinet officially designated Amaravati as the State's capital. Major investment pledges include $15 billion from Google for an AI hub in Visakhapatnam and ₹1 lakh crore from the Adani Group.

Intermediate Exam Schedule: The Board of Intermediate Education released the revised timetable for February 2026. First-year exams start February 23; second-year exams start February 24.

Vijayawada/NTR: A three-day passport mela for journalists concluded. Maris Stella College organized a mega job mela with 1,000 registrations.

Cricket (India vs. SA): India won the T20I series 3-1. Hardik Pandya became the 5th Indian to complete 2,000 T20I runs, while Tilak Varma became the Indian with the most T20I runs against South Africa (496 runs).

U-19 Asia Cup: India crushed Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the semi-final to set up a summit clash with arch-rival Pakistan.

Badminton: The duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty became the first Indian men's pair to reach the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Finals.

IFFK Awards: At the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala, Japanese film Two Seasons, Two Strangers won the Golden Crow Pheasant for Best Film.

Best Director: Argentine filmmakers Carina Piazza and Lucia Bracelis won the Silver Crow Pheasant for their film Before the Body.

TARANG: The beta version of a national web portal being developed by the Tribal Affairs Ministry to digitize Forest Rights Act (FRA) processes.

Vande Mataram Anniversary: Parliament held a special debate to mark 150 years of the National Song.

LVM3-M6 Mission: ISRO is scheduled to launch the Blue Bird communications satellite (6,500 kg) for U.S.-based AST SpaceMobile on December 24.
